EMDR Treatment is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, EMDR, works by calming a raging emotional sea

How EMDR Works

One way the mind heals trauma is during sleep, especially during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

EMDR treatment uses rapid eye movement to achieve healing the same way you heal when you sleep. Eye movements like those when you dream are recreated. Because you are encouraged to choose what to think about during the rapid eye movement session, the traumatic emotional memories you choose become less disturbing. With repeated sets of eye movements, memories become neutral and lose their triggering intensity, and anxiety symptoms and triggers are reduced.
